Kalaap - The 'collection' of Indian weaves and textile crafts
Welcome to our world of weaves and crafts! Our story began in 2018 with a trip to Ajrakhpur and our Founder started 'Bunavat', curating sarees handwoven by last mile weavers, with a special focus on lesser known and forgotten weaves. We wanted to tell the stories of the craftspeople!
A few years later, Bunavat's journey took a different turn with thoughtful designing and responsible production. However, we missed curating our favorite #everydayhandlooms. Hence, 'Kalaap' was born to revisit the same philosophy of providing a voice and a platform to the diverse weaves and textile crafts of our country because this is what we love too!
Our Philosophy
-
Celebrating Heritage
We intend to bring to the forefront, the forgotten and lesser-known weaves and textile crafts of India, thereby safeguarding livelihoods of these communities and preserving their craft.
-
Consciously Crafted
We adopt a thoughtful approach in sourcing our weaves which are handwoven or handcrafted using natural fibres, with the least intervention of machinery. We are the opposite of fast fashion.
-
Rooted in Community
When we work directly with last-mile weavers and artisans across India, not only are we bridging the gap between a producer and consumer, we're also investing in our local communities.

Here's our new launch!
Our traditional and authentic Begumpuri sarees woven in a cluster in Hooghly, West Bengal are now available for you to explore and purchase.
